Hey all,

Just to add, I have a 120 that I'm setting up with a pump in the basement. It is about a 12 foot stretch up to the tank. I bought a MAG 36 for the job, and put a ball valve in front it to dial back the pressure if needed. The MAG 35 is about 1200 GPH at 12-14 feet, which SHOULD be perfect...we'll see next weekend!

Also, I am running 1 inch flexible PVC to the stand, and then splitting to 2 x 3/4 to the double returns.

Drain is 1 1/2 pool/spa hose

REEFORAMA,

I DID WHAT YOUR THINKING OF DOING,AT FIRST I HAD EVERYTHING MOUNTED IN THE CABINET UNDER MY 90GL.THE NOISE TOOK AWAY FROM THE PLEASURE OF THE TANK,SO I DRILLED TWO HOLES IN THE WALL AND RAN IT ALL DOWN TO THE BASEMENT.THE WATER GOES FROM A CPR 800GPH OVERFLOW THREW 1IN CLEAR TUBING INTO A 20GL SUMP, I HAVE A MAG 9 DRIVING A ETSS EVOLUTION 500 SKIMMER,THEN A MAG12 DRIVES THE WATER THREW A CHILLER THEN A UV STERALIZER AND FINALLY THREW A SEA SWIRL INTO THE TANK.THERE IS NO NOISE IN THE ROOM WERE THE TANK IS AND ALL WATER CHANGES ARE DONE DOWN STAIRS.BY THE WAY THERE IS ABOUT A 5FT DROP TO THE SUMP WHERE IT IS MOUNTED IN A CLOSED CABINET ON THE WALL.BOTH MAGS ARE SUSPENDED FROM HOOKS WITH NYLON TIES AND FITTED WITH FOOT VALVES SO THEY DONT LOOSE PRIME,AND BY THE PUMPS NOT BEING IN THE WATER THE HEAT IS NOT TRANSFERED TO THE WATER.

Hello, I did something like you are talking about except I went thru the wall to the out side, under the awning. I am useing a dalphin 3000 this is not a magnetic driven pump so you have just about no heat transfer. a good thing!

I put all my equipment in a outside rubber maid shed and insulated it. My inside reef tank is 175 gal and my sump is 30 gal when half way full . one of the important things is to use check valves on the return lines and on the skimmer pump so if the power goes out the checks close and when the power comes back everything just starts up by itself ....Jer HoHum

ahhhhhh not to throw a wrench in to this.....

but you said you will be raiing the sump to close to the RAFTERS, ummm, evap. to the rafters will cause a problem... maybe not right away but it will and that could be a much bigger headache down the road.. just something to think about...
