tony,
I have a bit of experience with the KS unit. The basic issue is the quality of your source water, you can check it out here,
www.waterdata.com .
I was unable to get satisfactory water using a KS because the local utilities add polyPHOSPHATE to our water. This is used to keep minerals in suspension, and calcium is a mineral, which made it hard to dissolve my salt mix. (and the KS will not remove phosphates) I've since sold the unit to Jon and Brooke, and they're either pleased with it, or to polite to complain. The difference is that they use water from a private well.
You'd be well advised to try to find others in your area and ask their feedback prior to purchasing a KS because if it doesn't work for your application you're out of luck and $$. It's not guaranteed to produce reef quality water.
