Question

Kind of a different tank moving question

Hi all this is my first time posting here and I have a few questions about moving my tank out from the wall.
It only needs to move about 3 inches so I can put an overflow box on the back.

It is a 75-gallon glass aquarium and has about 125 lb of rock and 100 lb of sand in it.
Would it be safe to drain out 55 to 60 gallons out, leave the rock and sand in it and slide the tank and stand out from the wall?
Also the back wall is 90 percent covered in coral line will draining the water kill it off, I don’t think the water will be out of the tank more than 15 minutes?

Welcome to TRT

I don't think I'd personally do it that way- any strain on that tank and *crack* even if it is on a stand, I wouldn't try it. I'd take everything out and throw it in rubbermaids with a pump and heater just to be safe.

Your coralline should be just fine too... Even if it dies, it's gonna grow back fast if you already have it all over your tank.

Thank you for the welcome, I am off to pick a couple more rubbermaids and tear everything out of the tank I would hate to have a crack or something bad happen just becouse I was trying to short cut the move and besides the rubbermaids will be cheaper than beer for of my friends.

that method should be fine,
I've done that a couple times

yes the coraline may bleach out
but it will come back eventually

When I have moved my tanks over the yrs I take out most of the water, all the rock, and livestock ... leaving the sand in place ... and move the stand with the tank on it.

on our predator system i put a bunch of those teflon sliders under it. since it was on fake hardwood floors two people could slide the entire entity around the room completely full and running. a 75g, 20g, and sump. it can be done, just be carefull and push from the floor not near the top.

Just a note on this. Doing any kind of tank moving while there's still water/anything in the tank will almost certainly VOID your warranty. Most specifically state this.

But then again...that would require them knowing that you moved it when it wasn't empty.

just fyi.
