Thanks for the detailed thread Tom. It will be very interesting to see what your results are between the 2 store bought products and your home made version.

absolutely, thank you very much for the well thought out thread.
i had some small ones in my 55 and 2 pepps did the dirty work for me.

but like you said they are merely control. i have two that they arent interested in. i think they are tucked away to good. im definitely gonna give this a shot.

Anyone ever try this stuff Red sea Aiptasia-x ?

This stuff is supposed to be injested by the aiptashia. They eat the stuff and die from the inside out.

You can see a video here and review here:
http://blog.marinedepot.com/search?q=Red+Sea+Aiptasia

I am thinking of trying this stuff:

Well, I smothered some aptasia with kalk paste last night. We'll see how effective it was. In the past, it didn't work too well for me. Is the goal to make the aptasia "eat" the kalk, or should I simply "smother" them with kalk?

If you are careful you should be able to cover the oral disk of just the aiptasia with the kalk paste. If it gets on a few of the zoas it won't really be that big of a deal as others will grow to take their place eventually. Just go really slow when squeezing the trigger and you should be fine.

Injection is better but I have to use a eye dropper and smother them. I have a resting hand tremor that makes it too hard to stab one.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

More like Star Wars, I should have started with part III, see: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...38&postcount=3

I have pix of the effects of the treatment on the established clusters of the Anemnea, I just need to resize the pix (they are shot in the raw with my D-80) and post some commentary, where is my round Tuit?

The upshot so far is that the plain kalk paste is just as effective as the Aiptasia-X, if not more effective because you tend to go light on use of the Aiptasia-X due to price, whereas we tended to pile on the plain kalk paste. The only issue I have so far is that it is difficult to treat with either product if the peset anemone of choice is on a vertical surface or under an overhang, but I think I am rigging a setup to treat these exceptions using a flexible cannula (maybe a dobbhoff tube with a stylet or something similar with a not-too-big lumen ziptied to a stiff piece of reefsafe wire). The key is to have the lumen large enough to not provide any resistance to pushing the kalkpaste through it, yet not so large that you end up only filling the lumen of your delivery tube with your 60cc syringe of kalkpaste. It is also imoportant to have some means of getting under ledges to kill the anemnes under there (hard to do in a large tank with a straight needle; otherwise the one you miss just walk over to the new real estate you've cleared of any competitors, often leaving a trail of pedal lacerations that grow into new specimens...)

More pix to come soon.

Tom Great Thread. Very insightful, my last tank was riddled with aptasia I used joes juice with no luck i followed the direction and it did not work well for me at all. eventually we took the tank down. after about a year I am now cooking the rock in anticipation of the 150 build coming up.

I'm looking forward to the remainder of the build.
