Killer Blood Shrimp
OK, I am at wits end... I thought I removed the hermit crab serial killer from my tank. I caught a meat eating crab some have said is in the stoned crab family. However, I just found a fresh set of hermit crab legs with no body! Is there any chance my blood shrimp has done this?

I dont think your blood shrimp killed the crab. It might have feed on an already dead crab or it was feeding on the molted skin. I do not think it could kill a hermit.

Thanks for the info guys. How often do the crabs molt? Also, are the blood shrimp aggressive towards other shrimp. I want to add some skunk cleaners.

jbesse for what it's worth I asked a similar question and the consesus was the fire shrimp would along with a peppermint shrimp... so I would think a cleaner would be good to go as well. I like the look of the cleaner shirmp.

I was thinking of peppermint shrimp, I remember the pile of shells he had around his cave. I'm not exactly sure on how often hc's molt but I know it has to do with the amount on iodine in the water, I usually see molts every two weeks or so.

My blood molts about once a month. The first time it happened I thought he was dead as I saw hermit crabs eating the skin. I searched the tank till I found him. I noticed that he goes into hiding for a couple before and after the molt. But then he gets very friendly and will travel the tank. I even caught him cleaning my coral beauty (elegant fish, but a bully).

You can put any amount of blood, scarlet cleaner and pepermints togeter. Also one Coral banded shrimp. You cannot put two coral bandits together unless you get them as a pair first.

The peppermints are cute, but they seem a little fragile. I would be afraid they would get bullied easily.

My cleaner shrimp and my blood shrimp share the same hiding place. They don't bother each other at all.
