Kenya Tree - dying? slumped over

Hey guys,

I think the answer is YES, are all the Kenya trees on this LR dead?

I picked up the rock yesterday with my new mantis. When I took it out of the bucket they were all slouched over and some were split at the roots. I didn't see them in the previous owners tank - he was nice enough to pack it up for me so it was ready to go when I got there. The tank has been going strong with snails and other softies so the tank is good. However, most of the micro brittles jumped out of the rock (~8 of them) and they are barely alive as well.

I know, in the past, when I have purchased Kenya it has taken 2-5 days to perk up, but in this case the kenya tree's are shedding like the maple trees onto my sand. Since I've never seen a shed.. i'm guessing they may be done for. At this point, since there are about 12+ kenya trees on this rock I want to minimize the ammonia spike in the 15g tank and remove them if they are dead. Any way of telling for sure?

Thanks guys!

I've definitely seen them slump as well, but I don't think i've ever seen the trunks change color or the leaves (?) fall from the branches.

I would give them 2 weeks unless they really start to turn to mush. Its hard to tell with softies sometimes.

I ended up chopping them at the stem. It clouded up the water like crazy, but I figured worst case it only introduces 1/2 of the ammonia during the breakdown and best case they regenerate.

I've cut them to frag them, and they usually do regenerate if there healthy.

sorry for jacking your thread but do any of your trees stay retracted for 1-3 days? Ive had 2 kenya tree frags in my tank for about a month now and they open and close every day. one fo the frags hasnt opened now for about 3 days, while the other one looks perfectly normal. The only thing Ive done is 1. Remove a worm that was messin up my zoo rock. 2. Added a cocoworm 3. Started putting a little bit of new food for my angel. "thats going to a new tank soon because hes an ahole"
