I was wondering what the most prefered Kelvin rating for the Metal Halides is. I've read that most metal halides mimic sunlight at sea level with an average output of 5,500-6,500 Kelvin degrees color temperature. The so-called 50-50 pc bulbs provide 50% 6,500k daylight and 50% 7,100k
actinic light which could provide that. I plan on having everything from softies to
sps corals. The point of the Kelvin ratings is for the broad spectrum of light and the intensity, which depending on your MH could either be good or bad for the tank. I plan on getting 10,000k or 14,000k MH with two 50-50 pc's system (Coral Life for my 65g about 300w).
This broad spectrum seems important to get your low levels of lighting down to your blues, yellows and reds. For without these lights the corals cannot survive to they're fullest potential. So algae living symbiotically inside corals can use this blue light for photosynthesis.
Just a thought, any in-put, still reading and learning.
