I know you guys think I am whipping a dead horse on this one but bear with me. This isn't intended to be a BB vs DSB debate and I hope it doesn't get on the track. I want to have and maintain a live sand bed in my new system. A shallow bed to be frank 1.5 inches. The live sand I ordered is a Fiji special grade(fine). I intend to suspend my rockwork an inch above the sand so the entire bed will be open. I have read thred after thread of how sand sucks and how it dies on you and so on. But the commonality I read in all of these is that the sandbed in question was left to sit undisturbed and unmaitained. Now my set up is for softies and some hardier LPS so I can stand to run a slightly "dirtier" system than I would if I had say, an
SPS tank. I understand that an SSB will load real fast with goop and that detrivours only process about 10% of it. Can I stock a series of sand janitors to attack the sandbed from different angles? I already plan on the addition of 20 more ceriths and 10 nasserius to compliment my snail brigade. A tigertail is on the list as well. What other critters will help maintain a sand bed? What other tricks of husbandry can you guys share?
