Question

kalkwasser Q.

Ok so I'm gonna feel stupid ask'in this question but been try'in to figure this out for myself but am not sure if I'm do'in this right, so I'm ask'in the pro's here! Ok so I got a 30 gallon tank with lots of coral with a 10 gallon fuge, so all in all I think It's probably 35.Now I got kalkwasser and carbonate, or I can use aragamilk.I personaly like kalkwasser but am iffy if I'm mix'in this stuff correctly.I'm us'in 5 gallon jugs with RO from my LFS for top off and mix 2 tsp of kalkwasser in a glass one gallon jar and slow drip that into the tank at night.I usually mix slowly for at least 10/15 min cuz it dos'nt mix well but I do this buy hand.Should I just mix with my top off and add that to the tank or shold I follow a different procedure?

I use the 5 gal jug and put 2 TSP/ gal, 10tsp total. Shake it up and add a small powerhead to it, and let it mix for a few hours. Then I start a drip acclimater line at a rate of 1 drop/ sec for constant dosage and top-off.

I have two nems. They wander from time to time, if you catch it early the damage isnt too bad. mine still host the torch as its bigger. The tanks is a 37.

I'm a big fan of kalk. I have tried the drip method and the 24/7 dosing method. Both work well. My next thing might be to try a kalk reactor.

Whatever you do though, I'd start off just using 1 tsp/gallon until you're more experienced with it and then move up to 2 tsp/gallon. Reason is that if you don't have a system of delivering and a disaster prevention plan ( ie dose too much ), you could kill everything by dosing too much

When you're tank demands a little more than kalk can deliver, you can get frisky and start using vinegar with it. I don't recommend that for the beginner though because it makes the kalk very potent and you hsould need to have your system of delivering down

i actually just got my drip down, it is set pretty well w/ no net change in sump hight. I did it by marking a line on jug and the tank at the same time and checked it every 6 hours or so for the first few days.
