Question

Kalkwasser Dosing

Guys,

I have a 20 gallon reef system setup that has just finished cyling. After much study, I have decided that Kalkwasser would be a good chioce to replace my evaporated water at nite with. I know all about dosing and mixing it, but now about introducing it to a system. When should I start dosing? Does it shock the system at first?

Get a good calcium test kit to see where you are at,I started right away to get the coralline growing it doesnt shock the system if you drip it in nice and slow also get a good ph meter cause it can change it fast so you need to keep an eye on ph also.

I know that it will raise the PH, so after it is done dosing, I guess that I just check the PH to see where I stand then take action accordingly. I too am looking for good coraline growth which is why I was looking into kalkwasser dosing. Here is my plan, or at least what I think will be my plan:

1.) Dose kalkwasser at night time to replace evaporated water.
2.) One drop per second till I reach my water top off limit.
3.) Check PH and correct as required.

Since I am new to kalkwasser, any recommendations?

Also, I know every tank is different, but how long did it take for you to get good coraline growth after you started dosing?

Have you had to accomplish alot of PH correction after dosing? I assume you test right after you are finished dosing in the morning. Also, what is 'your' target PH?

No I dont have to adjust I watch the meter if it gets to high I just slow the drip,I aim for 8.3 to the best of my ability.
