Question

Kalk Talk

Alright all you die hard stony coral reef maniacs,

I have read enough . . . I think I am ready to take the plunge and get a kalk reactor. For my corals . . . and to hopefully help with limiting algae outbreaks.

I know the reef might outgrow the kalk reactor if I have a lot of stony corals . . . but man . . . the algae outbreaks are really starting to bum me out. One step at a time anyway.

So what is the "slam dunk" best one to get? Any opinions? I've seen a few threads about people who make there own modified versions. Can anybody recommend what the best kind is . . . or person to contact for constructing the best one?

Or more specifically . . . which kinds are just pure junk and should be avoided . . . and what was it about them that did not work well.

Thanks,

Skyeskrapr

I bought a "Precision Marine" kalk reactor from Premium Aquatics. It has a low wattage pump to stir the kalk rather than the magnetic stir bars @ the bottom which tend to bind with build up. I dose the kalk with a Litermeter III which pumps RO water through the reactor then to the sump. Works like a charm.

I think you are refering to a Calicum rector - to supply the tank with Calicum and to keep it around 425 to 450? For top off - tank evaporation, and those low PH swings at night, then a Kalk reactor is needed. I have heard some guy's just use a Kalk ractor to keep the calicum high, but I use both.

GEO - makes some nice ones, or DIY like this one that I made http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/at...&stc=1&thumb=1
