Juvenile Blue Tang in a 50?
Same question as my yellow tang thread. Just called the LFS and they don't have any juvenile yellow tangs. My wife has always wanted a blue tang as well and I know that the LFS usually has some juvenile blue tangs that are about 1 1/2 inches in length. Tank is 18X18X36. Thoughts?

a terrible idea. That fish will be too big for that tank at about 2 or 2.5". They are dedicated swimmers that need space and grow quickly, attaining size greater than 12". I'm not saying it's never been done, on the contrary, but you're tank is considerably too small for one of those fish. Patiently wait for a yellow tang, have the LFS order one for you.

Okay Blue Tang is Out! Thanks for the quick response. I would have hated to make that mistake and cause the fish stress.

There are probably a million yellow tangs at the wholesalers right now more then I’ve ever seen. So I think your store can get you one inside a week if they tried. Aside from getting too big for your tank blue tangs at 1.5” are hard to keep past a few weeks so I’d stay away from them regardless of your tank size.

I agree on the blue tang not a good choice, Small ones are hard to keep,
One other thing is make it a point to buy the fish you want when going into a LFS, big mistake if you buy something else because they didn't have what you wanted, Always better to wait.

Take it from someone who has been there, done that, and ended up regretting it. Do your research first, determine what fish you want to buy, and then go find that fish.

This thread has me envisioning this little blue fish doing laps around a tank, reminding me of Dory... just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming swimming swimming....
