Just starting my new 110g reef tank - need advice!!

Hi everyone... new to this site t
This is great and really looking forward to exchanging info. I just purchased my first big 110g tank and am waiting for it to arrive... live in spain now and things here take TIME ...

Any advice on how to cure my rock? The info on the sites is so confusing. Scrubbing it first, cycling it in another tank etc.

Im a big fan of just throwing it in the tank. Your going to have to start your cycle either way.....and the die off on the rock will help with it. A lot of people cure in other tanks, because sometimes it will smell like rotton eggs. If your taking your time....thats the way to do it, just throw it in your tank and let it ride. Good circulation and some light (to keep the corraline alive) will also help. Just buy some dry sand rather then live, it will become live very soon with the addition of your live rock.

I somewhat agree,but I like the rock in another space and move the rock over to the tank,not for the smell,but for leaving the junk(die off and ditrus) in the holding tank and keeps main tank cleaner.

what kind of holding container? Another aquarium? For how long?

Thanks for your reply. How long should I cycle the rock without livestock?
I heard something like 6-8 weeks. Like I said, I am NOT rushing anything so I´d rather be on the safe side. Also, should I raise the rock above the sand for easier cleaning?

You need to wait till it cycles then I'd waite a moth to be sure!

Also, how many lbs of rock do you suggest? Plus live sand?
Just read about someone wanting to ¨cook¨ his rock due to algae buildup.
Since I´m getting a Quarantine tank should I first cure the rock in there and then move it to the main tank? What about raising the rock above the sand?
