just need to vent

it's been the week from hell this weekend, and so little things are just frustrating the hell out of me

I caused an avalanche in my 55, and can't get the darn rock to stay where i wnt, how I want, or even get it to where I like the way it's stacked.

My watchman goby has disappeared, I don't see him behind the tank, so I'm hoping I just scared the poo out of the little guy. He wasn't under the rock he was hiding under last night when I went to bed, so I hope I didn't squish him when I fussed with it.

And then my nano tank is driving me nuts too.

I just need a good hard scream ;P

I find yelling helps

it's an art to get the rocks to stack how you want them

and I find I'm never happy with it
I remember restacking my rocks 5 times in a month

Good luck putting it all back together. There's definitely some frustrating facets to the hobby!

Renee post some pics of what you are working with rock wise (even if they are bad pics LOL ) you will get alot of ideas and opinions on how best to stack and stabalize them - My first tank had to many large rocks so I broke some apart and restacked it

That could be - if so we should be able to expoy or glue some to give you a more stable base

or you could check at the LFS if you could trade some smaller pieces for 1 or 2 larger ones

About the time I learned to be happy with my rock stacking is about the time I started to be successful in this hobby. Just gotta learn to keep those hands out - but ain't it hard!

It looks so empty now that I've taken out a few of the smaller bits for the nano tank

A standard 55g tank is not easy at all to stack rock in for reefs. They are designed to display fish and a few "decorative" rocks and plants. For a good reefscape, a deeper tank from front to back is preferred. With a 55g, even if you get all of the rock to stack without falling, you may still have issues trying to clean the glass without knocking stuff over and you may not have may shelves for placing corals. I didn't realize that this was the tank you were having issues with when I replied to your other thread.

I have a 55g frag tank and hate it but it was a freebie. Once I get my 75 up and running, it'll be easier without so much rock in there.

Doesn't look empty to me. Maybe take the one circular one down in front and place it a the top center.
If you cant get it stable you may want to take it all out and put the largest ones on the bottom creating the most surface area to stack more rocks on. While keeping the most open space for flow and fishies. If you do this you may also want to get some type of rock lifts or rack made of PVC.
