Things are going slow. Ive got the returns done for the CLS and Im looking at the intake. The pump is 1 1/2". If I use two 1 1/2" then that will take up alot of space in the tank. The pump is a Sequence Barracuda.
Also, I dont want a ton of clutter in the plumbing but there will be some (reductions, adaptors.)
Whos got pics of the back of the tank?

Robert

Well, Ive been getting pulled in several directions so its slow going still.
The returns for the CLSD are drilled and I started to plumb them then realized my pre-planning wasnt that great. In the first pic you can see the overall design of the CLS. The pump is plumbed with 1 1/2" so the PVC will be the same up to the bulkheads. On each end youll notice that there is a "T" that is because I had planned on routing each end down to the spray bar, seen insecond pic, with a ball valve for flow ballance.
Now, the bulk heads are 3/4" and this is where the first problem begins. Reducing from 1 1/2" to 3/4", can it be done with out 4 different fittings and without having the main structure of the CLS hanging 6 inches off of the tank? Id like for it to be snugger to the tank so there isnt so much water weight hanging out in the air like that. Also does anyone know of an addapter that will fit the threaded male part of the bulkhead instead of having to use the female part as this reduces the flow more than I want? You can see what I am talking about in the third pic.
Heres where I need more input and ideas froim all of you...HELP!!!!

Could I split the CLS into two 1" lines where it comes up in the center?

Robert

Tim, whats the 411 on your tank? Seems both of us are being yanked in different directions, have you made any more progress?

yes, these do exist. i have only seen them at Lowe's though. they are called bushing. it looks like a plug with a hole in it to hold the smaller size. if Lowe's does not carry them i am sure www.aquaticeco.com will.

yes, you may need to play around with the bulkhead at Lowe's. come to think of it i do not know if i have seen 2" threaed pieces. i have seen threaded ball valves, but i do not know if i have seen regular fittings threaded up to that size there. once again check with aquatic ecosystems, they carry way cool PVC stuff.

BTW-look for street fittings, these things rock. they are usually elbows. the street end slips directly into another fitting. you do not need to use a small length of PVC to join a street fitting. way cool.

Okay, Ill be a trator to my orange blood and try (s)Lowes.
On the bulkheads the part that the ring in the back screws onto is what I want to hook up to. Itys bigger thn 1" and smaller than 1 1/4". That is whay in the pic I have a fitting screwed into the famale threaded part of the bulkhead.
If you look at the picture of the whole stucture, in the middle is a "T", this is where the flex PVC will come from the pump and split to the two sides. Would it still work if I made these two "feed" legs of the setup 1" instead of 1 1/2"? The reason would be to simplify the plumbing, but I dont like losing the volume of the 1 1/2"
Whatchoo think?

Robert

Robert what Geoff said is good,I didnt see any 2" stuff at Lowes much I would go to the aquatic link he gave ya Roger and I ran 1" pipe to the bulkheads
much easier to find 1" pvc parts, the street parts he mentioned are sweet.

Thanks Casey. So you think if I split the CLS from the 1 1/2" feed into two 1' lines the flow would still be supported? I dont want to lose alot of flow due to reducing it too early. Basicaly that would give me a 1" line feeding two 3/4" returns and the spreybar wich is ran from a 3/4 bulk head also. There would be two legs like this on the CLS. This would handle the flow from the Barracuda?
Thanks

Robert
