just barely avoided a double flood!

well... can't trust my brain to keep track of everything. i really need to get started on that auto top off.

i was fiddling with my skimmer.
then i turned on the RO/DI to replace the water i lost due to evap since yesterday.

went off to cook dinner... then forgot about everything.

came back into my office, decided to check how the skimmer was doing and BOY! was i in for a supprize.

sump barely floodded, and the 1 gallon jug i have to catch the skimmate in was almost full!

grabbed the refractometer and checked the water, it only dropped to 1.023 (from 1.024) so no harm there i guess. i'm going to let evaporation take care of this. it should be back to normal in a few days.

a picture says more than 1000 words;

Whew! That was close! Time for the ATO. You'll wonder how you ever got by without it...

I need to use one, it's killing my back picking up those 5 gallon buckets... I flooded my freshwater sump once - I started to fill it and then got busy with the salt water tank and all of a sudden I heard a waterfall but it wasn't a pretty sound! Had to use up all my freshly washed towels to mop it up... What a mess....

I'm glad you caught yours in time!

Also wanted to say I like how you have the shelf behind your tank, I need to do that for my light boxes and extensions before I put the sump in...

I just picked up my ultralife floatswitch today. Now as soon as I fix my overflow problem, I am going to make my ATO out of it

that was one of the better ideas that i've had in a while. if i do say so myself.
as my stand is pretty "far" away from the wall, i wanted to use that space in a good way, and keep my CLS plumbing as short as possible. one of the pumps is in place for now, there needs to be added another one.

right now it's still a mess, as i'm still building this tank. i'm about 70% done now. and then i'm changing the sump for a new one
