Just a friendly reminder

If you have wet hands don't plug stuff in.

But on the upside my diy skimmer seems to work, and work well!

no vids of me shocking myself, but it was an interesting sensation, too bad this is not the first time I felt it.

The new skimmer I just threw into the top of my 15G for testing, I need to do something to prevent some microbubbles but other than that it's doing great.

It is based on a G3 (and uses 38W) made from stuff I had laying around. OR 2700 pump, some acrilic, gate valve, some fittings, and peices from a sump I had with a built in skimmer.

My MR-2 really heats up my water, (I noticed that while doing the RB treatments with skimmer off) and I am going to test this one aginst my MR-2 to see if it workes as well. If it does it will replace the MR-2, I'll save quite a bit in power.

heh!!!

You'd better send that skimmer down here, I can test it with my super duper thermmeter, right after I finish the 15 other outstanding/unfinished projects I have going on right now...

Are you usiong a submersible pump to feed the MR-2???

Heh, I'm doing my own testing right now I am just breaking it in in my 15G contest tank because it's empty right now and the skimmer drops right in easily.

For my MR-2 I use a GenX PCX 55 external pressure rated pump. It pulls 170W, and does really add allot more to tank heat then I would have thought.

Thanks for the reminder.

Trust me...I need it from time to time.

Also, kudos to you on the diy skimmer!

Whiskey, am I hearing this right? I thought you were a big fan of the MRC skimmers. Now your building your own ASM? LOL. Are you using a needlewheel pump?

Heh, ya, it might have been healthier, but less productive I'm sure.

I'm a huge fan of my MRC MR-2, but my Apt is not wired for enough power to allow me to run a chiller, and come summer if I'm still using this pump I won't be able to keep my temp down far enough.

I'm building my own ASM style skimmer to see if it can do about as well as the MRC does, while using 132 less watts, and reducing tank temp. I am using a needlewheel pump, a OR 2700.

I am really impressed actually, I'm leak testing this in my brand new 15G tank, when I woke up this morning (Keep in mind I haven't adjusted it yet), it had pulled out about 200ML of dark nasty liquid. There is nothing in my 15G tank yet, I don't know where what it pulled out came from.

I was turned away a bit too on the Becketts because of the power consumption required. I also hear a lot about people cleaning out their injectors on those. I never have to take apart my needlewheel. After 6 months of running I opened it up once and it was nearly clean inside. I'm looking into the meshwheel mod though. Been hearing good things on here about it.

I do have to clean my injector on my beckett, that's a pain, but if setup properly it only takes a few seconds. The best thing about the beckett is it does great for huge tanks because it processes so much water so fast, where the feed rate on your average recerc is something like 300 GPH (only 2X turnover for a 150G tank).

I desined my new DIY on the G3 platform, only one pump, I figure I am getting about 300 GPH throughput but I havent tested that part yet, if I need more I can get a bigger needlewheel pump.
