Looks good Wiskey. Sorry I haven't been on to answer your question. My skimmer came with a Rio 2100 (yikes). It looks like you have a needle wheel pump? Where did you find/buy that pump. Mine is the old type where the venturi comes after the pump.
I can't see how you changed/mod the gate valve. Do you have a better pic? What does the mod do anyway? I'm planning on going to home depot to pick up a gate value and give it a try.

I didn't change or modify the gate valve, or the NW pump, I made both of them work with this skimmer.
Before it was just a tube that dropped into a sump made for it. I installed the gate valve, bottom, NW pump, etc to make it work without it's special sump, and make it work better than when it had the sump.

I got the pump from MD I think, but if you venturi is after the pump the NW pump won't do you any good at all, you need to put that venturi before the pump for the needlewheel do do any good. I made my own venturi out of the inlet to the pump, I did this to save time and space.

No, I posted the pics I took, all the gate valve does is set the water hight in the skimmer, that's it. If the gate valve is more closed the water is higher in the skimmer body, if it is more open the water level is lower.

It is. I'm impressed actually, this skimmer is now on my 125, and we will see how it does

BeforeI left for work it was doing great, just plugging along pulling stuff out If it keeps that up I will be quite happy.
Thanks!

I just wanted to throw up a quick update here. The water level in this skimmer has been very consistant, this is a huge + Also it continues to be pulling junk out every time I look at it, I keep sneeking peeks to see if it's slacking off, but not so far.
It has pulled out about 1/2 cup (measureing cup) of darker brown liquid so far, very good, with tuns of room for adjustment.

hey whiskey, if u want to get more air in the skimmer u can modify the needlewheel by putting on some enkemat, Its kinda like the gutterguard mod but you do have to worry about how u lay down the layers. The stuff kinda looks like scrubbing pad material but very rigid. heres a link to what it looks like http://www.colbond-geosynthetics.com...A7Enkamat.html Ive had it on my octopus for a while now and this thing pulls in alot more air than when I had it stock. The turbulence in the chamber has also gone down which is a plus. Theres a guy on RC called magvi that sell a 12"x12" sheet of the stuff for like 2 bux. I highly recommend it.
