Jumping fish

I currently do not use the glass lids on my aquarium in order to keep the temperature more stable and allow for maxium light to the tank. In the future I would like to get some fish that are considered "jumper" like a firefish. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for some sort of screen lid or the like that would allow for evaportion and cooling and would also keep the fish inside the tank?

Yes I have the crome eggcate on mine .I have a center brace on my tank so I cut mine into two(so I can take one side off by itself)I cut it to fit perfectly all the way to the back.So they would have to jump perfect(1"squares) to get out.

You can also build yourself a small inner frame and cover it with window screen. Use the kind thats like on aluminum screen doors and on the windows of your house. I live in AZ and have 80% & 90% light blockage screens on the house. You don't want that kind, but a thin "bug proof" screen type.

This may block out a little light, but it still allows for the tranference of air above the water and keeps your fish inside.

If you really wanna get in deep, get a screen frame kit at Lowes or Home Depot and buy some extra corner pieces. You can make 2 frames and hinge them together so one can open inside the canopy for feeding and cleaning rituals.
These frames are aluminum, so if you like, build your own out of wood.

The possibilities are almost endless.

i used egg crate. and one of my firefish found just the right spot...

the screening would also be great for getting corals use to your lighting if it is high( better) then where they came from

I dont think so. Its coated with a black pvc type material. I had one on my Iguana tank for 4 years using PC lights and misting it with water daily---high humidity. Never saw a sign of rust.

No!

It's made of different types of material.
Some are PVC, Vinyl, fiberglass and the kind on the windows of my house are SunTex fabric. The old metal type screens are still around but very hard to find.
