fair enough, I guess that's one of the appeals of this hobby, many people can have unique experiences with the same fish, coral and/or invertebrate

The pictures and tank are looking great. I love the ventralis - how long have you had them.
Just in case you haven't been given this advice for macro pics, you need to get to F9 or F11 to get decent depth of field, and to get a slow enough shutter speed for correct exposure that means you need to shoot with a tripod and remote.

No problem, the easiest way to do it I find is to use the mode on your camera that allows you to manually adjust aperture and shutter speed (it is TAV mode on mine), and does everything else automatically. Set it to F11, hook up your tripod and remote, and then slowly change the shutter speed til you get the correct exposure. Once you get the hang of it, then try switching to manual focusing and you'll likely find you'll get even sharper pics.

Looking good. A couple more suggestions:
1) if you haven't, turn off the flow while you are shooting (looks like you may have done this)
2) try backing up and shooting a bit wider frame, then cropping. DOF is also a function of how far you are from the subject.

Thanks, those actually were with the flow off and with a pretty wide frame, I think part of the problem is that I don't have tripod yet, so the camera is a little shaky. Thanks for the tips and keep them coming!

Get a tripod.
Pictures look great, but even a $20 tripod will probably make them all the better. Keep them coming!

Those are really great pictures. It would be cool to see the macro and then a full shot of the actual coral it came from as a comparison. Thanks for sharing those pictures with us.
