Joes 75 gallon reef tank build

Ok Im building a 75 gallon reef tank here at work to go in my office!!The tank was donated by the lfs...its a 75 gallon aga with a black stand and canopy on the way!!

here is what Im thinking so far....

I have a 75 gallon aga left rear overflow....I just bought a new acrilic sump for $150.00 ( I think its a steal!)

a few questions

1. what should I use for return...Id like to use one part of the sump for a refugium???/so Im thinking mabe an external pump????

2. Tunze 6025 or 6045????The nano streams will this be enough flow If I buy 4 of them???? I can get the 6025 for 50.00 per pump
or the 6045 for 80.00 per pump

I would also like your opinion on a calcium reactor and skimmer????

for lights I was thinking 2 250 watt 14k pheonix or hamiltons with lumenix reflectors.

This is gonna be fun!!

Congrats on the new tank! What are you planning on keeping - softy, sps, mixed? I'd think that 2 of the Tunze 6045's along with flow from the return pump would be plenty for your tank.

keep in mind the 6045's are nano streams....I may go with 2 6045 streams on each side of the tank and 2 6025 streams for the back bottom for bottom flow....I don't have a closed loop system so I worry about lower tank flow???also I think the nano streams are magnetic so the should have a clean look on the tank!

I think they're rated for about 1200 gph each (I could be wrong) which should actually be a lot of flow for a 75 gallon tank. It wouldn't be too much to add more, but if it were me, I'd see how much flow they put out first and then add from there. I've never used one of those, so I can't say from personal experience - that's why I'd experiment first.

4 6045s wouldnt hurt, but 2 for a 75 g would be plenty I think - along with your return youd have 35-40x turnover. I have 2 6045s, a Mag 9.5 return and Seio 820 (hidden behind the LR) on my 118g and it seems to be plenty.

Also, where are you getting those great prices on the Tunze nanos???

TUNZE PRICES ON ebay!!!!

Im thinking of this as my return....the tank is rated at 600gph but Im going to stretch a little...Im thinking external for a return...Im going to make a small fuge in the middle of the sump since Im limited on room..

Fish water pump can be used externally or submerged
*Aquarium pump can be mounted in three convenient orientations
*Boasts high flow rates from a quiet, magnetic motor

These aquarium water pumps boast a multipurpose design to powerfully suit any aquarium setup. Each Oceanrunner Pump features an adjustable mounting plate that allows you to place the pump where you need it - either externally or fully submersed. Includes a virtually indestructible ceramic shaft and rubber bearing behind a magnetically driven motor for continual, long-lasting, and quiet use. Fully enclosed motor with integrated thermal overheat protection shuts down if impeller becomes obstructed. Rugged housing disassembles for easy cleaning. Also includes pre-filter basket, plastic hose connections, and 6 ft. power cord. For use in either salt or freshwater aquariums. Black. All aquarists want a healthy, thriving aquatic environment for their aquarium inhabitants. A quality water pump is critical to achieve this goal. Based on your aquarium type, there are different filtration water flow requirements - many of which are powered by your chosen water pump. Each Oceanrunner Pump commands high flow rates in a small, versatile design so your aquarium can be beautiful and healthy, not overflowing with unsightly plumbing or wires. Since the power of this pump can be harnessed whether submerged inside your aquarium or tucked inside your aquarium's stand, it is suited to your needs. Plus, with the adjustable mounting plate, your overall setup is based on your aquarium design - not on where you can place your water pump.

Get new sand for the new tank and use a few cups of the established sand to seed the new sand.
