drawings

Hi Jon, got your message. I'll see if I can convert the CAD drawing I did to a JPG and post it. Yer right, I haven't updated the website for a while, been spending all my time building the hood, cabinets, tank, etc and haven't had any time to play with the website. If there is an interest I can create a DIY site with the plans and info, I took a bunch of photos along the way in case I had time to do that some day.

I did the CAD drawings as a project to help teach myself CAD. Should be do-able to create a set-up/building drawing from the original file. Gee....another project

Any other's interested?

I'd love to see them as well. I'm currently in need of a hood...but actually I'm thinking of going with some type of brackets to attach my new lights (coming this weekend ) to the frame of the tank w/ some sort of drop down/hinged shield on the front and sides. This is in lieu of a hood since I know I won't be able to match the stain on my stand. But I will need plans for my bigger and better tank later down the road.

Thanks John. Or you can just give me your hood and make yourself a new one, since I know you love building stuff . I have a cad r14 program at work if that is any easier.

Everyone that would like to have a hood in the future should see John's work, he does a great job.

John I thought you needed another project.

Hi Jon,
I can e-mail ya the DWG file for autocad, that one's easy!

Tomorrow morning I'm switching the IceCap ballasts from the 38g to the new 90g, new balast in the 38g and that's the last step for the hood lighting. Timers are working, halides are working, sumps is running, snails are crawling. Picking up used dosing pump for the Kalk reactor tonight, need to make modifications to adapt to dosing the 90g.

The biggest project on the list is parking the vehicles in the garage!!! Jan leaves for work at 5:10AM and all Winter the garage has been full of sawhorses, chopbox, tools, tank, plumbing, electrical and cabinets..... Oppps, forgot about those new kitchen cabinets!

I love finding DIY projrcts online, gives me ideas, I just put a hood together myself for my 30 gallon and built a tank last year after finding similar projects.
Does anyone know where I can get some kind of small red light for my hood for night viewing, I did see a website that used LEDs but I wanted other ideas.

hummmmm....hadn't thought to toss one of those in. Red incandescent light bulbs are use in darkroom invoiroments, I wonder if photo suppliers would have the bulbs?

I used some translucent red film (graphics) and applied it to the inside of my Maglight lens. Light bulb could be an interesting idea!

Red Incandescent Bulbs

I finally get to post something I can speak on with some authority!!!!

You can get the red bulbs at a party supply store (party city is a chain local to me) I've seen them in 40 and 60 Watt flavors...

good luck

Do you mean like a regular light bulb? I would have to squeeze it in there....plus the fan I need..

I will check it out though, I put switches on the side today so I can stop unplugging them..

I'd love to see the hood plans as well... I just finished staining and assembling a new hood for my 55 that I bought unfinished... It has worked out very well... I even set it up to automatically shut off the lights if I need to raise the lid...

Hood me! I'd like to see the plans as well. I've got some drawings for the 90 hood I'm planning but I'd love to see your ideas also. Everytime I start a big project and get half way through I find a better idea. Maybe this way I'll avoid a big D'oh! Are you going to post them? If not email me directly at lat42kahuna@earthlink,net. Thanks!

Hood plans

Ok....seems to be some interest in the hood I did for my 90g. I'll take some digitals of where I'm at in the process so far (waiting on a couple door panels) and load the plans. It'l take me a day or so to put this together. Just about to leave for the LFS (imagine that!) and have some other obligations today so I'll see when I can get them loaded. Probably easiest to upload a complete page to my website, pictures and plans, etc. I also did some work for plans and photos for the base cabinet as a "Woodworking 101" type project. Photos of how to layout faceframes, dowling, joining etc.

And to think....I was only about six projects away from being bored....
