Iwaki Pumps
I am changing my sump return pump from a submersible Quiet One pump to an external pump to gain some more flow through my sump. After doing some research, the Little Giant and Iwaki seem to be about the best out there in terms of efficiency. I am leaning towards the IWAKI MD40RLXT which puts out 1200gph @ 4' head. I noticed IWAKI also makes an "American" motored put that is about $100 less. Is the japanese version that much better? I know a lot of people use this type pump so i was wondering what you used. Personally, if I am already spending $200 on a pump, I might as well spent an extra $100 if the Japanese model is higher quality.

Have you looked into the panworld pumps? Close to the iwakis at a little better price. But if I was going to snag an iwaki I would definately get the japanese motors.

The one I have is super old and has the Japonese motor,.. but then I only paid $10 for it. Mine is the 30 high pressure pump and it's been very reliable and a great pump for me.

i went for a panworld/blueline pump too instead of an iwaki.
ps: depending on what you're going to use that pump for, you may want to look at a pressure rated pump, the MD40RLXT will start running out of steam if you're pushing more than 10' of headpressure.

Aftering looking closely at the Iwaki, Little Giant and PanWorld pumps, I just can't justify the extra cost of the Iwaki. Gonna go with the Little Giant for PanWorld, I think they are both comperable.

I just grabbed another panworld today. I love them. The last one I had was dead quiet. I'm planning two more for my build

I have an Iwaki 40RLT and also run a Velocity T3. The Iwaki is the Walchem model (American made) and is comparable to it's Japanese model however, the Walchem motors have a higher watt/hour rating for the same flow.
With that said, the T3 is rather close in flow but is nearly silent (something that I cannot say for the Iwaki). The only downside is that the Iwaki is fan cooled and the T3 is not. You trade having a silent pump for increased heat transfer to the outgoing water stream. In the case of a 90g tank with 20g sump, the temp difference was about a degree or one-and-a-half. If this is in your livingroom, you might accept the tradeoff...almost perfectly silent is truly amazing.
Good luck!
