Its alive....Its Alive!...IT'S ALIVE!!!
*my best Mad Scientist impression*
Got the sump running.... boy that thing hums....
It was filling faster than it was draining at first, so i drilled more holes, but that didn't do the trick...i was having to crimp the return hose about every minute or two to let the water level go down, so i dug out the pump throttle attachment (it took me almost 45 minutes to dig it up) and i put that on, seems to be doing the trick, the water level stayed steady for about 1 hour now and continues to stay that way. Do you think i can trust it to go to sleep for the night? *sweating bullets*
BUT, my siphon-keeping baffle works great(i tester for power outages), i stuck a piece of tubing in the U tube to keep airbubbles out, the tube also makes a great drip acclimator as a bonus, i keep a check valve on it tho so it dosen't leak when its not in use... i put a hole in the return line just below the water surface so if the power goes out it won't turn into a siphon when the pump shuts off and drain my tank.....
i have to go check things again now.... i hope its all still going good...

i was gonna take some pics... but then i looked around my fishroom, and i am ashamed...its a disaster area.... my tanks are the cleanest parts of the room.....
so, i think i'll spend some time tomorrow tidying up and maybe then i'll take some pics... i just hope nothing goes wrong overnight...
i was a wreck for a week after the light overdriving project was complete
no problems at all, but i was just worried we did something wrong and i would come home to a burnt-out house....
one thing tho.... boy the water is cloudy, what IS up with IO? its been more than 24 hours of heavy circulation and i still have undissolved white flecks flurrying around in my tanks...

Way to go Heather IF you can throttle back the pump so that it doesnt over run the overflow you should be good to go. My prototype ran on the back porch for a week before coming into the house . Leaving the tube in the U tube may be reducing siphon flow in the long run, FWIW
Oh and about the messy fishroom, show me a tidy one and I will show you an OCD reefer or someone with a maid

Out of sheer paranoia, i decided to pull it back a bit more, i'm really worried it will flood. if i notice only a slight change in 4 hours, 8 hours might make it 'slightly' too much.
My prototype ran on the back porch for a week before coming into the house .
if i did that it would freeze --if it were an option i definately would have done something like that.

i thought that might be the case, maybe i should draw it out for the night, it wasn't all that hard to insert in the first place, i just liked leaving it in there because it just made it easier if i needed to use it, it came in handy cause when i started the siphon i had a huge bubble f course, and i just pulled it out with the tube, slick.

lol, i guess thats true, but its really bad down there, an unfinished basement with bits of tank stuff every where, tons of unfinished or partly started hobby projects and dust, lots and lots of dust...., not to mention birds and feathers!

Dont feel bad I have a 32g Rubbermaid trash can next to mine for top off. In the living room, I can't repeat what my wife thinks about that
