It was a MASSACRE!!

hahaha. Title get your attention?

it's kind of fitting though.

See...my display tank is now almost a frag tank!!

I had an acro that was showing signs of bleaching/recession. granted, it was over a month, but wasn't sure what was going on. ANyways...Tom (TDWYATT) among others gave me good advice, ant that was to frag as much of the still good parts as possible. I was very hesitant, until I saw Eric Borneman's demo on fragging. Apperantly, it's harder to screw up during fraggin than it is to get it right. So...it was time to get chopping.

Just wanted to show you what was once one coral is now almost a dozen! (10 frags plus the original!!) And they all appear to be doing GREAT!!
(the Reef Dip is REALLY the key!)

I felt like I was the marine equivelent of the Texas Chain Saw guy! hahaha

here's the b4-after pics!

It makes you wonder how many massive acropora forests were made from a single busted tip of another acro. I have so many i would love to frag the livin crap out of but i have had to slap my hands cause i also want some good sized ones.

During Eric Borneman's demonstration, he explained that he's recently started using marble for his frags. he says for some reason, the coral's can attach/grow quicker...but it's actually hard for algae to grow on it.

So I just went to home depot, paid $18 for a piece of marble...too it home, and busted it up into little pieces. We'll see if his theory holds true!

yup! that frag is definitely Pretty in Pink...

The preformed 4"x4" tiles are the easiest to use (much easier than the 12" square tiles), if you score them and set the score on a sharp edge, they will usually snap along the score, even better if you can find 1"x1" marble tiles on a sheet.

when you fragged from the orginal, did you cut underwater? And when you cut to make the new frag, well, please don't misunderstand, but the bottom of the mama looks white, right? Is that part dead? do or did you cut above the white or use it also? New to fragging and can't figure out why the base is white while above is pink-I would have thought bleaching or die ing of the coral would not have started at the tip first.
