Is xenia considered aggressive?
I have a xenia that is partially touching my toadstool leather and the polyps on the toadstool are closed or partially closed with a layer of mucus where the xenia is touching it. Are xenias capable of hurting other corals?

Yes it can be aggressive. Very good at chemical warfare, most commonly with other diferent types of xenia. Your going to want to move the xenia, or the toadstool.

Yah, I think I'm actually going to trade some in to the LFS. I tell ya, I started with 2 small, 2 stalks each, frags just over a month ago and I've already fragged them both. What was just 2 xenias, 4 stalks total, a month ago is now 4 xenias with about 12 stalks total and still seeing new stalks weekly. I know this stuff grows like a weed but this is insane!

Lol, My LFS won't take xenia frags. They can't get rid of the infestation they already have
Yes I said infestation...The way this stuff grows is a really good indicator of the amount of nutrient in the tank. Some people cultivate it like macroalgae.

JCox, I will take a few off your hands. Not sure what you get at the LFS (which one?)

WilyGuy, I just gave 2 pieces this afternoon to a buddy just starting a tank. 2 different LFSs didn't want it (you called it, reefnoob). The way this stuff is growing, I will definately keep you in mind when I frag it again. What part of MD are you in? I also just read your post on your tank meltdown, that's a bummer. I actually just had an episode with my heater that luckily I caught before it became a disaster. How's your tank doing now? How's the Jager heater?

I must be lucky. I take my Xenias to the LFS and he gives me credit for as much as I give him. He sells out of the stuff everytime too. Its amazing how much he sells. Must be a lot of new people but hey. It keeps me and him happy.

JCox, I'm down in Odenton. I think Aquarium Center will take them on occasion. Store Credit, etc. I have done well since the meltdown. The heater works excellent.
I recently moved to a 65 gallon tank. Then I did major renovations to the basement to accomodate humanoids and I ended up with the fine drywall dust in the air and eventually in the tank (despite my best efforts).
Whatever it was, the hair algae has gone completely crazy. Had to get some cleanup help and some of my corals became covered and my hope is that they survive. I have good feeling about it. My lone Xenia has decreased and it separated from the rock, so it was floating around. I have since made efforts to get it to re-attach and we will see.
The heater meltdown has been the biggest learning experience thus far.
