Is this too much for Quarantine Tank
Hi All,
Is this too much for a QT tank.
MJ1200 sponge from main tank
50watt Visitherm heater
Power Filter for aeration
Couple pieces of PVC
I also have some Quick Cure for Fast Relief for Ick & Other parasites on hand just in case.

Looks like a decent setup, you thinking of getting some new fish?

you might want to keep a number of those sponges around. all new. that way you can have a new one in the display growing bacteria so that if you have setup the QT tank quickly you have some colonized bacteria all ready to go. you do not want to put the old sponge back in the display after it has been medicated, depending on the meds used anyway.

Fish Freak. Yeah I am getting some black and white Ocellaris clowns in the morning from Marine Depot.
Geoff. Thanks. I didn't even think about not being able to put the medicated sponge back the display. In any case I have one floating in the sump. Should I put my brand new sponge in the display for direct contact with the livestock or is it okay to leave in sump?

Should I use this Quick Cure as soon as the fish come? Or should I wait for something to happen?

It should be fine to leave the sponge in the sump,. but it will get more bacterial growth faster if you have water flowing threw it (like having it on a powerhead).
The setup looks good,.. it's about what I had when I was Q-ing fish, make sure to top off regularly because with a small tank salinity swings can happen quickly.
I always liked to feed my Q tank a week I got the fish,.. this food breaking down in the tank made sure there was not a huge bio-load jump when I started feeding the fish,.. it helps make sure the tank is cycled and such. When I planned on picking my fish up I would test ammonia and Nitrite to make sure the bacteria in the tank was keeping up.
I'm really not a fish guy so I dont' know anything about meds,.. but I do agree that I would wait for something to show up before treating.
One last thing,.. it helps to paint 4 sides of the tank (On the outside) back, and 2 sides, plus the bottom, because it helps the fish feel more secure not being able to see out the glass panes around the tank.

Alright, I going to get some new sponges. I would be nice if I could find a bag of them.
I have plenty of fresh made top off water on hand.
I didn't have a chance to have the tank set up that long. I will keep that in mind for future setups. And there will be future setups. What I saw in one of the LFS today was just horrible. The livestock looks like it should be in ICU.
I put this nice blue backing on all the side and it is sitting on my nightstand which has real dark finish.
Thanks for the help everyone.

The blue backing on the sides and dark nightstand should work perfect.
How soon are you getting the fish? You could start feeding now, and check ammonia and nitrate before you head to the store to pick them up. If you do have fish in there and detect Ammonia there are certin products (water conditionars) that de-toxify Ammonia,.. you will still read it on your kit but it won't burn the fish's gills. Look for any "Stress Coat" type product that says "Detoxifies Ammonia" on it this will help you in a pinch.
We have a few LFS's like that around here,.. but thankfully we also have a few really good ones so those are the ones I go to. We have one that Q's all it's fish for a month before selling them,.. they get them to eat and make sure they don't have any deseise,.. that's the one I get my fish from.
