Is this skimmer overkill for me??!?!

hey all, setting up a 40 gallon with 20 gallon sump. It is SPS dominant with a 2" sand bed. I have a guy local selling a Precision Marine Bullet 1. I would get it for my tank, but my LFS said that it might be overkill for me and that I might run into problems with having no trace elements left.

Any insight would be great.

thanks in advance..

I would say it's a great skimmer for that volume of water.

The only drawback to a beckett/injection skimmer is the need for a high pressure pump which equals a much higher power consumption than a needlewheel type.

No such thing as overkill when skimming IMO

The trace elements (what few the skimmer would remove) would get replaced with weekly water changes. You can go overkill with a skimmer but not because it removes trace elements. It will clean the water SO fast that it has nothing to clean most of the time and won't be producing skimmate even though it is running. Makes telling how well it is/isn't work hard to do

I'd get a Octopus or a Coralife.
