Can a fan malfunction cause damage (ie fire) like a MH malfunction? Doesn't seem like it, but I dont know for sure....

Looks very nice and clean, but the CFM rating seems a little weak to me:

1 Fan Unit - 28.68 cfm
2 Fan Unit - 31.57 cfm
4 Fan Unit - 38.56 cfm
6 Fan Unit - 45.55 cfm

A single (1) 4" Orion canopy fan pushes 51 cfm (or 110 cfm if you get the louder one)

I agree with Loverotties...I cannot find anywhere on their site that states the product is UL approved or listed. At least email the company to find out for sure. Any electrical device should be UL approved, especially those located near salt water!

If you're a DIY'er, you can take a couple of $5 computer fans and get about twice that airflow. You basically need two 12 volt fans and a 24 volt power supply and then something to turn it on and off.

actually was double listed, found the same unit for $38 shipped, so I went for it. Already have a couple fans that keep the temp around 82-83 so just hoping to lower it a bit more w/o a chiller. oh and according to this auction, it is UL listed.

Large cooling fans provide powerful ventilation to reduce heat transference from aquarium equipment. Extremely quiet operation with adjustable positioning, perfect for sumps or for use in aquarium stands/cabinets to reduce humidity. Generates 10 times more cooling power than conventional fans to reduce temperature buildup by 5 to 7 degrees Fahrenheit. Easy to install – no tools needed. High-quality plastic construction. 12V UL-Listed.
