Is this bad? Shedding Euphyllia Parancora (Hammer Coral) ??

I have a Euphyllia Parancora hammer coral that looks like it is doing very well in my reef. It opens the hole time the lights are on. And at feed time it sends out its little feelers. It is even growing. But tonight I was blowing of the live rock in my tank with a turkey baster and I blow on the rock under the coral well to my surprise there was allot of little hammer heads that started floating away. It looks like just the heads of the polyps. I gave the hammer a little blow and there was hundreds of these thing floating around the tank. it has been about 20 minuets now and it is starting to open back up. Every thing looks good there is no bleaching the polyps have good color.
Any one have any ideas what this was?

Is it possible that one of the branches had a polyp head that was shaded from the light? If so it could have died and the tentacles could have falllen off. If thats the case one polyp head dieing will not affect the whole colony.

Are there any branches with empty ends?
