Is there a way to slow coraline growth?

My tank is now 3 months old. All I had was 2.5 pounds of live rock to seed my 40 pounds of base rock. The two pieces of live rock I bought are solid purple and 100% covered in coraline

Now, I am happy it is growing on my other rocks, but it is spreading too quickly! My glass is starting to get multiple spots even with daily use of the magnet scraper.

I don't want it to cover my rock too much as I am worried it will lower the ability of my rock to filter the water. Also, the spread on the glass is going too quickly.

Anything to slow it down?

It wont hurt the rocks ability to filter. Coraline is a good sign. The only bad thing about it is keeping it off the viewing panels.

some people like it growing all over the back glass ...i wish mine would grow like that ....this is just an assumption but anything that would slow it down wouldnt be good for your tank

good coraline growth is a sign of stable values as far as the big three go (cal, alk and mag) if you keep those numbers stable you will have a healthier tank, and good groth of coraline is a sign of that.

Might I ask what youre dosing,the salt, and what your Ca/ Alk/Mg levels are?

Cleaning the glass is just part of it. Its a good sign as many have said.

Reducing calcium will slow the growth, but may kill off what you already have. The back of my tank is so covered you can't even see through it! Use a razor a couple times a month to scrape it off with your normal cleaning and problem is solved. Be careful not to scratch the tank.

Salt is Instant Ocean. I do 5-10% water changes every 10 days or so.

I dose Oceans Blend part 1 and 2. I add 3ml per 10 gallons of each

pH: 8.2
Ca: 440
Alk: 10
Mg: do not test
