Is there a safe paint?

Hi all,

I would like to do some painting near my sump. Does anyone know of a paint that is safe to use? There are some that are low odor, but is that good enough?

Thanks as always for your help.

Hi Homer,

How much painting do you have to do? is it the inside of the sump?

I would just paint away, put a fan on it, and open the doors and windows. You might want to do it early in the morning, so it has time to dry before night.

If your skimmer is sucking in air from there, just turn it off until you don't smell anything.

Thanks Jerel,

My sump is in my basement and I wanted to paint the walls around the basement to lighten the place up a bit.

What's a basement?

Kidding, I saw one in a book once.

If you don't have anything sucking in air for the tank. I would just cover the sump with plastic, so it's as air tight as you can get it. Put fans in the windows (for you too). and paint away.

Good luck

Like Jerel said you can cover the sump and use lots of ventalation. You may even want to shut down the sump system and use internal pweeerheads for a few days to be sure. Latex paint is less noxious than enamel, tho anything with hydrocarbon base(has to be cleaned in paint thineer vs water) will be nastier. At the varey least shut offf the skimmer, cover sump well, Use carbon and a LOT of ventilation
