You will get many opinions on the overskimming question but I will say that the rating is more than likely far from accurate. Most skimmers are over rated. There are also many factors such as bio load how the skimmer is set etc.

I have 5 fish under 3 inches long. Other than that, I have many hermit and some snails. I would think my bio load would not be that high.

I would say no and not worry about it.

Prepare for many opinions
I only feel over skimming is something to be worried about if:
1. You have a softie dominated tank that like things a little dirtier.
2. You are skimming so wet that your significantly lowering your SG between water changes...
3. You skimmer and skimmer pumps over heat the system to the point you can't control it
But I've been wrong many, many times before

I would never tell someone to use a skimmer thats rates at EXACTLY what tank size they have. an example is my 29g is using a skimmer rated at 100g and it is probably barely good enough to keep up with 4 fish bioload. if u buy a seaclone 150 and put it on a 150 gallon tank u will not be able to keep up. I always try to get filtration rated 4x what I have.
Aquaclear 110 on a 29 gallon
Seaclone 100 on a 29 gallon
and I have very good results. Just my 2 cents

I have no corals at this time. The skimmings are somewhat wet, but my SG does not change.

im gonna go out on a limb and say yes, you CAN over skim, but your not anywhere close to it, skimmers are way over rated. like everyone already said, but i feel if your really stripping the water of everything, it is possible to do some harm, you cant have a perfectly sterile tank, eventually you will start skimming out things you actually need. but like i said, you are a long way from it, so no need to worry. im sure you can set that thing to skim a little dryer, and save some trouble of cleaning the cup as often.
