I’ve had two Condys in my 55g for more than a year. Give it some time to acclimate. It may drift around in the tank for a few days looking for a place to sit. Don't try to firce it anywhere, it likely won't stay. Most of the deaths I've seen of these was because they were on they way out before they hit the home tank. That's usually the case if it goes only days after bringing it home.
These things are voracious eaters. They will try to eat anything with in grasp even your fish. Don’t worry though, after getting tagged a time or two the fish quickly learn to avoid it. You should have no problem keeping it after it acclimates. My Condys were put in early in my tank’s life and have been through a lot of questionable water situations. They are very hardy.
I rarely directly feed mine for two reasons:
1. I feed my tank mush every other day and they usually catch some drift. Realize that these things are 99.99999% water. There’s not a lot of mass to support. You’ll notice this when they “deflate”. So their nutrient requirements are not severe. They are also extremely fast growers when you feed them well. “Condylactis gigantea,” key term is gigantea. They will get big. My larger one’s center is 4 inches in diameter. That makes him about 9 inches across tip-to-tip. It takes up quite a chunk of the 55. It had about a 2” center when I got it a year ago.
2. They make a mess when they “poop”. They will eschew this brown stringy stuff that is quite unsightly. The more often you feed, the more they do. My
brittle stars seem to like the stuff so I don’t have too much of a problem, but then the stars only come out at night.
I actually will throw mine a piece of cooked shrimp when people want some entertainment or I’m just feeling guilty. Other than that they are on their own at feeding time for a lucky drop. People don’t seem do care to have these creatures because they are not a hosting anemone. But I like them. Enjoy!
