Is it worth it?
As you know Im looking at seting up a 55gal, when I can get the tank. My question to you guys is. I know that I will be moving by the end of Feb. will it effect the tank if I have it started then have to move it? Am I better off just waiting till I have moved to start it?

I think it would be beneficial to start it now. I wouldnt go hog wild on the stocking part, but when you move it you will have that much of a head start towards an established system. I would run it barebottom until then regardless of whether or not you intend on it being a barebottom tank. Much simpler and less involved and risky for the move.

So then, when it is time to move it. I then just empty it but keep all the SW to put back in?? is that how it would work?

You will put all the live stock in rubbermaid tubs or buckets with SW from the tank. You will take all the sand and put them in buckets. I put a little water to keep the water submerged it didn't take much water. You want to keep as much SW from the tank as possible but you will need to have some on hand as well. How far are you moving??

10 minutes is no biggy. Moving a tank is freaking hard work. I have moved several times, each time was hard. Get some friends, you'll need it. Personally I plan on moving in April and am waiting to setup my systems until then. I did start a 20g long nano tank for a growout but don't plan on setting up wither of the larger tanks in the garage until the move is complete.

how is the weather during the time you will be moving? if it is really cold outside you have to keep that in mind. Why not start a small nano to keep you going until then? easyier to move since it is small. Feb. is not that far away

I would start it now - - but without any sand bed - - bare bottom - - you could get a six month jump on starting it.

If You are making a nearby move, I would set it up and do a BB like mentioned. Then when You do move You can add the sand and the tank will be cycled. Yes just plan and have friends that can help you

i agree to a point, i would say, start it up bare bottom, get all your live rock and let it cycle real good. maybe put in a fish or two. no corals yet though. that can wait for feb when its more stable after the move.
