What spot on the tank do you want to drill(back)?

yes, but i really do not recommend it. i have done it three times. if done wrong or not gentle enough, catastrophy would be the outcome.

Just got done drilling a 220 gallon reef tank on the end of the tank towards the top for a 1.5" bulkhead (2.5" hole) So it is possible, if you have the guts.

yes in the back of the tank. enough of a hole or holes to move 1000-1500 gallons an hour.

Start drinking heavily before you drill (smile). I've seen it done and it was a disaster because the person drilled way too fast and not gently at all.

Dumb Question, How do you keep the water from gushing out as soon as the bit punchs though?

You drain the tank just below where you want to drill.

I have to say, I don't have the guts, and I am one of them people that like to take a chance, not on a tank, the older I get the more I stay away from things like that. Just because I have had a large tank full of water and fish blow out on me. Big mess to clean.

I am wondering if there is any kind of cup you could put on the inside where you will drill that would be larger than the hole and would temporarily seal that area until the bulkhead was in place?

Crazy idea, I know, but still something to ponder.

The bulkhead has to be installed from both sides, so that idea would work fine, until you had to take the cup off to install the bulkhead.

Yeah, it could be made to where you could set the nut and washer inside the cup so that it would be aligned to receive the bulkhead after the hole was drilled. You could cap off the bulkhead on the outside so after it was screwed on and tightened, the pipe could be installed on the inside.

I am surprised no one has made and patented this yet. ****...........I'm giving away my ideas!
