Is anyone here familiar enough with venturi skimmers to know ....
If this is normal?
There is water blasting out where the venturi attachment connects to the skimmer, indicated by the red arrow. Is water supposed to be blasting from here, or only from the bottom?

Only from the bottom. Is the venturi threaded into the pipe or does it slip together?

it inserts, then rotates 1/2 turn and locks into place. It just does not look right when I fire it up and water blasts out of the crack. Its like there is an "O" ring missing or something. It will not sustain a stable bubble level in the cone and I have a feeling this might be why.

I wish it were that easy, there is no threads. just grove with a notch that clicks into place.

is there a groove for an o ring? call the company in the morning... I'd say check for a proper connection then just let it run to see if it changes as it breaks in.

There is no grove, but there is a lip that would securely hold one between the 2 parts. I will be calling them tomorrow. Thanks

It may be easier to take the venturi to your local hardware or home improvement store and buy an O ring to fit it. If you can take both pieces your helpful hardware man should be able to help you find something to seal it up.

actually I was thinking that HD would probably have a good selection of O rings, I just might do that. Certainly easier than pulling this thing all apart to return it!

Well I called them this morning, and they said there is no o-ring supposed to be there, and water leakage at that point is normal.

yup .. its literally blasting out... and I told him that too. He said that there is no O-ring or any seal on that spot and water does come out of there.

Me? I'd exchange it for another model...if IT does the same, then I'd just go with the flow ( no pun intended here )
I still bet you could somehow use thread tape to help that. I have used it many a time on slip fittings

what kind of skimmer is that? you can buy this neat plumbers sillycone tape that is super stretchy. it is used to wrap extremely tightly around leaks. i got it at Lowe's or HD.
