so, all these topics about phosban and possible elevated iron levels got me thinking (i know, dangerous)

since there are Fe test kits, there must be something that you can do about high (or low) iron levels.

what levels are safe, acceptable an/or normal ?

apart from water changes, what else can you do to get rid of iron, if you needed to ?

do marco algae (or any other plant that has chlorophyll in it) "consume" iron ?

is there anything else in a reeftank that uses iron ?

having just gone through some Fe poisoning on my tank i can just tell you what i have learned.

Fe is like phosphates, it is quickly used up in the water column. getting my RO/DI filters replaced has almost fixed the problem imediately. i am already seeing the growth coming back and the colour showing back up on the corals.

if you have a DSB or sand bed than it will prolly be a good idea to remove it, since it gets full, just like with phosphates.
