for 99.00 you be better off just trading cups of sand and hand fulls of macros with other reefers. For 100.00 I getting a nice acro from reefer madness!!

I bought something similar but with more time with the tanks and knowing more about live rock and the buddy's cup of sand I wish I would have passed on it.
I am not convinced it did much more than what the tank would have done on it's own.
if you do not have access to friends with SB than it is worth it. like others have said it is just as good to get a cup of sand from somebodies established tank. these of course would not be very helpfull if you are doing a BB tank.
I "activated" my previous tank w/IPSFs Live Sand Activator for $40 and was very pleased with the diversity of critters I received. Between this package and LR purchases I had tons of pods, spaghetti worms (see pic) and other worm varieties. I put everything in my main tank except for the "WonderMud" which I split between my disply and refug.
Of course it saves money to use LS from fellow reefers but who knows if they have as diverse a selection that you'd get with buying a quality activator. For instance I got some LS from 2 local reefers to activate my upcoming tank and after 3 weeks of inspecting it, the only thing I noted were baby bristle worms. Nevertheless, I'll be purchasing the IPSFs Live Sand Activator for the new tank as well. http://www.ipsf.com/#anchor47277
I have a bunch of those strombus grazers, and yes they do shag like crazy they are a great addition to a tank, they are small, dont knock things over, eat like crazy, can flip themselves over, and reproduce like crazy...so not only is it cool to have baby snails and to point out to friends and family that your snails are having sex, but their population will expand according to your needs, plus if the babies die due to too little food, not a huge tank spike...
I don't have access to to buddy sand. I looked at the site and it seems to be a great deal of good critters that you get. I could use more of these good guys...is it worth it?
I also started my tank with the 9/$99 DEALIO: I have millions of pods in both my fuge and display. I have 18 strombus snails (from orignal 6), 12 micro hermits, 6 nerites, tang heaven red, tang heaven yellow and baby bristle stars. I also got the sand bed clams and 5 out of 6 are still alive and stirring in the fuge. I think it is a fair deal, or at least it was for me.
