Just read and follow the directions on the bottle. Usually 1 drop per 50gals Have you tested for iodine yet?

Very true, and Iodide is one of those chemicals that can be toxic at high levels.

Heres an article that you may find interesting

Like most additives I would not recommend unless you know you have a deficiency - chances are you have more than enough iodine.

Glad this came up.

I used to use Logul's solution, but was told it wasn't a good idea by someone else. Now that I'm getting ready to get going again on a new tank, I was just wondering about iodine. Gonna do some research on it, and I had no idea there was a test kit for that as well, thanks for the heads up.

of interest if you want to test

Salifert's kit tests for elemental iodine, iodide and iodate. It's not easy to read (IMHO).
Seachem's kit tests for elemental iodine and iodide - does not test iodate. It's easy to read.

Because of this, my strategy was:
1) Convince myself that both test kits agree on iodine and iodide levels (my kits do - can't say about the specific examples you may buy or own)
2) Use seachem's for iodine/iodide.
3) Use salifert's for iodate.

How to measure organic? I wish I could.
