Input needed on price of tank

I found a deal on craigslist in my area that I personally think is a decent deal....but I want your take to see if im being riped off. heres the list of stuff he has in his ad
"I am selling my salt water tank. It is running, I have a dog face puffer, a large lunar wrasse and a snowflake eel. they all get along and it is a relatively easy setup to take care of. It is well established tank I have been running for 3 years . I have a ten gallon sump with a seaclone 100 protein scimmer bio balls etc. this used to be a reef tank so it has a thick healthy sandbed.I have a lot of extras to go with it. including a uv filter and some books as well."
Its a 75 gallon tank too
He is sending me more pictures tomorow as well as more details about what sort of pumps are the returns. My big current concern is how is the protien skimmer and I dont know on the lights.

He is asking 500 im thinking about offering 450

It's not a great deal, the skimmer is way undersized for that size tank and your not going to want to use the sand unless you rinse it very well. What type of lighting is onit. If it doesn't come with a stand, then it's really not a good deal

I kind of figured the skimmer was undersized, It does come with the stand and I have asked about the lighting.

Based on that info, I wouldn't buy it. Here are the problems, or at least, things you won't really use: old sand bed, skimmer, 10 gallon sump, bioballs. Things you need to know more about: lighting, pumps, is it reef ready tank, plumbing, heater, accessories. Right now, I'd say it's not a good deal since you would have to add a bunch of stuff.

Unless he was a neat freak, the tank is probably pretty dirty from the eel and the puffer. They're just messy.

Any idea how much LR is in it? Most LR in my area is anywhere from $5-8 a pound, so if theres close to 70lbs of LR it might not be that bad of a deal. You can always cook it. I wouldn't even bother with the sand...just get rid of it and replace it with new if you want sand.

I would ask about the lights and how many watts the UV filter is, how old the bulbs are, etc.

Thats what i expected but I am waiting back on the info to see if it includes heater plumbing and all that stuff. If the lights are T5's or MH I think it could possibly be worth it (or am i off my rocker).

Ouch! I'm thinking $300 tops... Unless he is delivering the tank and livestock, then $400...

I don't want to hijack a thread but I have a similar question about a 550 gallon tank. He wants 1700 for it. Tank, stand and canopy. The picture he sent me doesn't look real good. I am waiting to here back to find out what equipment, if any, will come with it.

10 ft long7 ft high (8 1/2 with hood open)25 inchs wide

The height is the stand, tank and canopy.

My personal thought is that it is too much without any equipment.

Glass or acrylic?

My acrylic 370 was over 3K to my door. I couldn't even think if moving a 550 glass tank. If it is acylic and the seams are good and the acrylic is not discolored, it seems like a steal, but I would need to see it in person.

I only have one picture and from the picture I honestly can't tell.
The one I have is here:
http://members.aol.com/justhikk/550gallontank.jpg

It is almost 900k image so it isn't very dial-up friendly. That is a picture he sent me of the tank, I still want to go see it in person. It is a display tank from a now closed hotel. No equipment at all, just the tank. I would guess it was setup as a FO because of the canopy that is on it. Either way, I would have to rebuild the stand/canopy to be happy with it.

Eek. That big tank is not worth it. The stand is horrid... Not sure on the tank, but better off shopping around and leaving that to the next guy!
