usually hairy leggers are bad. I had one, a gorilla crab, and I had put a couple bumblebee snails in my tank. One got too close to his hole and he came out, grabbed it, and about 4 days later he kicked out the empty shell. I ended up cutting the rock in half to get him out. I wouldn't trust it.

You glue animals to rocks and keep them in glass houses, why would you need therapy , you seem fine to me
I also, spent the last YEAR trying to get a hairey hitchhiker crab oiut of my tank... he was brown, hairey and had black-tipped claws. I believe he is responsible for killing at least 3 fish, 2 peppermint shrimp and numerous snails....I just succeeded in getting him out about a month ago... I say GET HIM OUT better safe than sorry... can you put him in your sump?

alot of people consider all crabs not reef safe.... But the general i have always been taught is, sharp claws, meat eater. blunt claws, algae eater. But when in doubt, get it out!
so all crabs with hairy legs are bad? because i have an emerald with hairy legs and i thought they were fine...
It is just a rule of thumb people go by. Your Emerald crab should be fine.

I had 2 emeralds that didn't bother anything until they got about a yr old then I saw them go after small fish and eat snails so not all emeralds are good.

Well from the description, it kinda sounds like a stone crab to me. If it is a stone crab, then get it out of your display tank and put it in your sump. They can kill fish, shrimp, and crabs prety easy.
If you toss it in your sump, it will help keep that area clean. I currently have one in my sump, and now I am just trying to see how big it will get.
