ID: String that sways in the darkness

During the day it retracts and looks like a little fuzzy ball with a slight point about 2-3 mm in diameter. At light it 'reaches out' to a length of about 3 inches and sways in the current. About 10 of them popped up in my 10 gallon. My red brain looks like it has an irritation near where one of these things is. Looking for an ID or info. Thanks for your time, and happy reefing!

Any chance you can get a pic of , both during the day as well as at night when it's extended?

I have them also, found a link that show a pic of what I think they are. Strange that they maybe a hydroid, always thought they where worms. Has a pic, but it had a copywrite notice so I didn't copy it.

Troy, our son, discovered these things a few yrs ago in our tank and taught us all about how they work and when you learn about them and how they eat and live, they are one fascinating creature to watch! Ctenophores - we'd watch them with a flashlight.
