ID Please. Aiptasia??
G'day guys,
Can someone give me an ID on these please. I dont actually think they are aiptasia, i would just like to rule them out. I have attached a pic so you can see them, i am actually thinking they are some kind of polyps but i am unsure. They are about 1/4inch high and maybe 3-4mm across, and they are spreading fast. They are pinkish in colour and seem to be growing on some sort of old polyp skeleton (goniopora or similar) and there are several patches on the rock. They DO NOT grow on the actual rock just these old skeletons, that seemed completely lifeless when i bought the rock. I hope i've given you enough decsription, the pics fairly clear.

they have the same general shape but the ones I've seen have longer tentacles. How fast do they retract when bothered? Aptasia is very fast to retract.

they don't look like the aiptasia i normally see around....
maybe some type of button polyp that is either a really light color naturally, or some that have been in a dark spot for a long time....
those ones seem to be doing a colony thing...

Sorry tim i cant get a top down pic, they are in a really bad place for pics. I noticed since i posted that they are all joined and they dont really have tentacles so to speak. I am now 95% sure that they are some kind of polyp, i just dont know what kind. Reasons for thinking they are some kind of polyp, they dont look like any aiptasia i have seen really, they dont retract quickley when annoyed and the majority of wonderful TRT people who replied to this thread agree that they are some kind of polyps.
Thanks guys your wonderful.
