ID on brown spots please

Starting to get these brown spots showing up in the tank on the rock.

Can someone ID and take a guess at what might be causing them? I just starting getting them (I'm guessing brown algae?).

is it soft and very brown?
I have that on my rocks too...a decent amount.
I heard it could be Brown Plate Coralline algae...do a websearch on brown plate algae.
that's the best match i could find.
Personally, looks very ugly...I just pull it off

Mine just pulls off, dont really like the look of it. I wanted to know if it was a indication of a degrading tank condition??

have no idea. if it is hard, it is prolly some kind off corraline algae. it is an algae, so if you do not like it, remove it.

The lights are getting to a point were I should be replacing (a year now). Thanks for the responses. I'll just peel off when I dont want it.

I was worried it was a sign that the tank my be going downhill, or at least use a good water change.
