ID assistance... something attached to snail w/pics
Yesterday I noticed something on a snail. At first I thought it was my kenya tree snail (where a piece of kenya tree attached to the cerith snail), but I found him. This has what looks like a clam foot or something attached, almost like a clam foot, to the snail. I'm really not sure what it is. I do have a derasa and crocea clam, but they seem to be fine.
Here are a couple pictures. You can see the threads attached to the snail, and they were pretty hard to pull off. I did remove whatever this is and put the snail back in the tank. Any thoughts?

very odd, not sure what it is. the fact that it was difficult to remove raises big red flags in my head though. i would really start to keep an eye on that snail. if this happens again paint the underside of the snail shell with some acrylic paint so that you can keep track of it. that way you can tell if it is isolated to one individual or is spreading.

Hmm, good thinking Geoff. I don't know if it's part of the foot of my derasa clam, which is pretty big and doesnt often secure itself to structure, but I'll keep my eyes open for another instance.

sure looks like clam to me, is it possible that the clam partially attached to the poor snail? If so that's what he gets for being a lazy snail

I agree with the above, the first thing I thought when I saw it is a part of a clam's foot.
My derassa has let something like this go before, usually when he's not entirely happy with where he's at.

You'd think these snails would learn from their buddies.

I just took a pic of my anomaly. The nassarius that WAS next to it last night isn't there anymore. I thought it was the snail giving birth to an alien.

I just saw one in a friend's tank - thought it was part of a clam but ended up being part of a feather duster's ejected head.
