Icky, icky, ich

Ahhhh.... Purchased a regal tang and thought I did everything right. Placed in a quarantine tank for 2 weeks and all looked great. Then after I placed it in the display tank I started seeing white spots on both of the regal tang's sides which I presume is ich (looks like salt). I have searched the forums and feel more confused now then when I started. Do I remove every fish from the display tank and quarantine or just the one that is showing symptoms? I don't want to stress the fish anymore than need be. They are all eating well and the tang is the only one that has this problem. I have 2 clowns, a bullet goby, lawnmower blenny, and the regal tang. I have a 29g quarantine tank and I just need some help on what to do. Do I let them be and see if they can fight it since they are still eating everything; put them in quarantine and dose with copper; or quarantine and do the hyposalinity protocol?

It will really depend on how committed you are to getting rid of the ich. Hyposalinity can take up to 8 weeks. You need to leave the main tank fallow for the same amount of time. After you are done with which ever treatment you use, you will have to stay committed and q/t any new fish for 4 weeks or more.

I like hypo. It works. If you want to use copper, be sure to do it in a separate tank and have a copper test kit available. The levels of copper needed to kill ich is borderline dangerous to fish.

For now, keep the water at top notch levels, add some garlic to the food and dont add any stress to the tank.

Whichever you choose, you need to get that tank cycling now so its ready for the bio load of 5 fish.

MY tang had some Ich and I fed him "Garlic extreem" soaked food and he was better in no time.

Definitely take out your fish. I recently had the same or it may have been velvet??? Either way, it started with a scribbled angel that died and that led to my blue hippo, purple tang and naso blonde dying, along with some other small fish. Not a good month in my tank, but it is all gone now.
