ICK and everything dying

The Ick returned with avengence.

having lost my butterfly a couple of weeks ago . the tang and box puffer developed white spots. They seam to clean up and then came back.

The tang died within 6 hours of starting to get white spots again. When we found the puffer, he was in a dreadful condition and even his eyes were completly covered and he was lying on his side. We gave him a 3minute dip in freshwater and a lot of the parasites seam to come off. and when we put him in the new tank he was swimming and feeding straight away.

however within an hour, he lost all his colour and his skin started shedding in strips. He died the next morning and all his fins had disappeared (even though there is no clean up crew in there).

4 other fish have now died today. theres very few fish left alive now (4 clowns).

Im setting up a quaranteen tank to treat them, but I think that its too little to late. I do have 4*110watt u.v. running and i have been feeding them on garlic...neither of which has made any difference...water seams fine apart from the ick.

Im setting up my new tanks and I'll just leave this tank to heal once all the remainig fish are dead.

In short im blinkin sick and im not going to have any more fish until I get set up with a quarantine tank and everything else running properly.

As Ive never used filters before (always live rock), how long will it take for my filters to be ready in the quaranteen tank

Sounds like there are major issues in your tank, if you would, please give us a run down of ALL information pertaining to your tank. List includes equipment and brands, the placement of equipment, how long the system has been set up, water parameters, and anything else you can think of listing. We'll figure out the problems. Ich is mainly caused by stress (and obviously being present in the tank) Give us info so that we can help.

You will need to keep the main tank completely free of fish for at least 28 days to clear out the ich. Here is a great article on dealing with ich. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ichart2mar.htm

*Sigh* Another bad ich story. Alas, I had a similar problem not long ago. It caused a few casualties in my tank as well. I knew what my stressor was, I added quite a few frags to the tank and the change of the parameters from all the new cuts and my hands in the tank for quite a while did it I am sure. Here is a link I have put up a few times for others. Maybe it will help you too. You seem to know all the information already though. Good luck.

It all started when I put a new butterfly fish in from my lfs. everything else went wrong after that. I've been back down my lfs and theyre suffering a total loss as well.

My fish had been fine for months before that. my clown also developed growths within 2 days of butterfly going in tank.

I have since set up treatment tank and im going to set up twin quarantine tanks . Im going to use a 36"*12"*18 with a skimmer, uv all in one and a aqua one 1200litre external canister filter as a treatment tank.

And in the future Ill put the new fish in the 5*2*2 for 12 week quaranteen before I let them in my main setup.

Ive put some cycle in the treatment tank to kick start the filter and was going to put some frozen food in to help it start (I wasnt sure how long to leave the tank empty)

Ditto on requests for your tank parameters, volume, temp, equipment, ammonia, pH, Ca, alk, nitrites and nitrates, sand or not, sump, etc.; tell us everything you can about the tank. Ick just doesn't normally kill like this, the organism is prolly present in all marine environments. It usually only becomes a problem as a result of some stressor based on changing water conditions, changes in populations, changes in activity levels, or environmental changes that induce stressors into an otherwise healthy tank environment.

Telling us as much as you can (even what may seem to be insignificant) will help us in our attempts to delve into the issues.
