Ich Treatment

I'm setting up a 10 gallon Hospitial tank to treat my Hippo with the case of Ich. What is the best copper treatment? I have SeaCure Copper. It that any good or is there better?

Seachems cupramine is suppose to be the least harsh of the coppers - just make sure you have a copper test kit that can read cupramine - Seachem, Red Sea, and the more recent Salifert copper test kits can read cupramine.

MY hIPPO BREAKS OUT EVERY SO OFTEN, KEEP HIM WELL FEED,dont forget the garlic. It seems to come and go. I wonder if you can ever really get rid of it. Once you put him back in the tank he can get it again, I think.

Here is some good reading on ich. It can be eradicated from your tank. Just takes 6 weeks of patience. Allmost like cycling live rock.

So is SeaCure any good or should I go with the SeaChems copper? How long should I leave the Hippo in the Hositial tank? That is after I dont see it anymore.

You can just treat the hippo in a hospital but when he returns to the display the ich will still be in the display tank and he will eventually get infected. You must move all fish to a hospital tank and treat them all their and let the display tank run fishless for 6 weeks. Without fish the ich parasite will starve to death with no fish to host on. I am going through the same thing right now and have 2 weeks to go. I used cupramine with hyposalinity and the ich was off the fish in 3-4 days and has not returned. The important thing is to rid the display of ich and letting it sit fishless is the only way proven way to do it.

im going through the same thing as well the main tank has been fishless for 4 weeks now and that is 28 days for ich life cycle but to be on the safe side i am going to leave them out for another week or two. Thats the only way to get that stuff out of there.
