Question

Ich and garlic???

I've been reading alot about pepole using garlic to help cure Ich? Is it the best thing to use or is it myth? Whats the best way if I were to use the fresh garlic, just mince it up and mix it with frozne food? I'm asking because I think i see a spot on my tank and rather not chance it. Would you just treat all the fish once in a while with garlic? Just trying to get ahead of the game. Thanks for your advice

I use 'Garlic Guard' from 'Seachem'; I soak the food in it before feeding time. Its garlic oil and Vit C. I think its cheeper to use it than to get your hands all smelly with fresh garlic. An $8 bottle last several months.

Whenever our foxface gets a dot or two of ich the feedings with garlic commence. We get the crushed garlic in the big jars from the supermarket and use the oil from there along with Selcon to soak the food. In a day or so the spots are gone.

I was skeptical, but my yellow tang had a few "growths" attached to it. I've been soaking their food in a mixture of minced garlic and RO water and it seems to have helped.

Save yourself some money and get the garlic from the supermarket. It works just as well......

Garlic works, but go easy on it as can damage the fish's organs (liver I believe) from what I've read.

I take a big clove of garlic from the supermarket, peel it and crush it in the food processor with about a cup of water. I store this "solution" in the fridge and soak all the food in it. (even sheets of nori for the tangs)
I had a purple tang with REALLY BAD ich - my sump smelled like italian food but the ich went away in about a week!
